Final Project

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8kxa7Zvhxw

I was always thinking about the reality of the world based on people’s perspective. What is real? What is virtual? What is the truth under our eyes? Therefore, I decided to create a project based on people’s different views towards the world. My project was divided into three parts. The first one is virtual and real world. The second part is the change. The final part is the limited or broader world.

Most of the time, we are limited by the hint of the photos. Therefore, I listed some seemly correct photos but when they are compared to their original version, they become false. For example, one of my photos consists of a boy who is standing in front of the building and his inverted image. However, the truth is, the inverted reflection is the real world.

The second part, change, is mainly focus on the difference between time and space. When we see a photo, we will consider the true things are same as the picture. However, the world is always changing. The pictures taken in the same place but at different times are totally different. Therefore, I took two photos in one place. One was took on 6 am while the other one was took on 6 pm.

The final part of my project is the broader world. Most of the time, we are limited by the content of the picture and never know the neighbor world of the photo. Are they more beautiful or not? In this part, I compare the normal photos and wide-angle photos to show the world that neglected by camera.

Brainstorm of the Final Project

I was always thinking about the reality of the world based on people’s perspective. What is real? What is virtual? What is the truth under our eyes?

When I look back the photos I took in China, I was wandering whether it can be used in my final project because I really love them. Therefore, I decided to use the photos taken by two of my friends and me in my previous university in China to reflect my theme.

My project was divided into three parts. The first one is virtual and real world. The second part is the change, which will focus on the difference between time and space. The final part of my project is limited and broad and I want to emphasize the broader world. In my three parts, I will compare some photos of the same place taken in different times or in different perspectives.

Failure

I think my biggest failure this semester is I was late for classes, and sometimes even miss the class. Sorry about that and please let me offer my sincerest apologies. I really like you and the class is interesting. So I really want to wake up on time in the morning but because of the time, I always fail. Besides, I waked up on time some time but when I went out, I found I just missed the bus. Pretty sorry about being late. From this failure, I learned I should gain more perseverance. I am a little easy to beat right now but I believe I will change.
My biggest success in this semester is the use of the applications. I really like to learn some new techniques. I knew how to use Photoshop before but iMovie and Garage band is totally new for me. I think they are fantastic. Before I learned iMovie, I always use Corel VideoStudio to create videos. Compare this two applications, iMovie is easier to learn and to use. Besides, it can upload video to YouTube directly. From my success, I know if something is really interested to me, then I will learn it quickly. Therefore, next time if I want to learn something, I should try my best to find some interest part of it.
If I could redo one project, I will choose to redo Micro Project 4. MP4 is about sound and use Garage band. I use the sound of the process that I checked out in Giant Eagle. In fact, the reason I dislike it is because I think my work do not contain enough creativity. If I redo it, I will create a sound about the bus. How the bus comes. What are the people doing on the bus? Are they fighting, talking, or just listening to the music? I think it will be fun.

My action word is rotate which means turning or cycle. When talking about this word, my first reaction is wheel because it can only go with the help of rotation. Therefore, I took a shot video when I was waiting the NO.2 bus to go to campus at the bus stop near my apartment. Even though it is the wheel that rotates, I still need to shoot the whole car because of the video integrity. During the class, I kept thinking about what else do I see or use every day that can rotate. When I saw the clock on the wall outside my apartment, I knew here it is. The movement of the clock hand is a process of rotation. The clock hand inspired me a lot. I came to realize there are lots of stuffs in my daily life are rotating. For example, the heater, my clarisonic mia, etc. Then I shoot the process of opening the door as the end of my video because the turning key and doorknob are also rotating.

The place I choose is Giant Eagle. I choose Giant Eagle because it is near my apartment, the Olentangy Village. Giant Eagle is a comprehensive supermarket which includes fast food, fruits, raw materials, seasoning, beverage, necessities and etc. I almost go to Giant Eagle every day for simple reasons. Firstly, I like fresh things. So I only buy materials I need for today’s cook. Secondly, I can find everything I want easily with high quality. Thirdly, it serves fast food! That means when I am tired or have no time to cook, I can access food conveniently.
For my project, I recorded the process when I check out because I think the sound of check out is the most unique signal to let me recognize it is Giant Eagle. The electronic voice is what I listen every day and direct me to check out. “Thank you for shopping at Giant Eagle, please remember to take your receipt”. This sentence reminds me I have checked out and should be careful to take my receipt and all my stuff to back to home.

Response to Carver “Cathedral”

In the article, the author’s wife was hired by a blind man and finally, they became friends so she wants to invite the blind man to her house. However, the author feels unhappy because he never knows the blind man before and has no blind friend. He acts rude and impolite when the man came. The blind man, who just lost his wife, is intelligent and the highlight of the article is when the two men sitting together and watching TV. When the TV shows the picture of Cathedral, the author feels difficult to describe it to the blind man even though he can see and tell it. And finally, it is the blind man who teaches the author how to convey information.
In fact, how to convey information is not limited to whether a man is health or blind. Most of the time, when we feel hard to display something, we should think in another way.
